What is altitude in a triangle ?
The altitude or height of a triangle is the line segment from a vertex that is perpendicular to the opposite side or base.
Altitude of an equilateral triangle
It is interesting to note that in an equilateral triangle , the altitude bisects the angle as well as the opposite side.
Example -
In the example above , a triangle is given which is an equilateral triamgle as all it's sides are equal (each 5cm).
AD is the perpendicular drawn from vertex A to the base BC.
Therefore, BD=BC and angle BAD is equal to angle CAD
Because in an equilateral triangle , the altitude bisects the angle and the opposite side .
